Digipak Conventions

Today I have been researching into digipak conventions, within this i have noticed a wide range of different examples to what different artists have done. There are many recurring conventions such as:

On the front:

Linkin Park
ACDC
  • Artist name - usually takes prime place somewhere usually in the centre
  • Title - usually takes secondary spot on the front but can have different locations depending on the artist
  • On the front there is usually a sticker advertising bonus tracks or DVD
  • There is usaully some correlation between the front and the back panels on the digipak

On the back:

Linkin Park
  • Barcode - on the digipak is usually on the back in the right hand corner
  • Website - for the artist is usually somewhere near the bottom either centre, right or left hand side
  • Copyright information - on the back of the album in a small font
  • Track listings are usually shown on the left hand side.
  • Bonus DVD and CD details are usually displayed underneath the track listings
  • Record label - displayed at the bottom

On the inside:
ACDC
Beatles
  • Increasingly on the inside we have noticed that social media and QR codes take up some space on the left inside panel. This could include; Facebook, twitter, and Instagram with a QR code to the website. This is especially important to us because Lady Gaga uses this often to interact with her fans online, she also built her career based on her social media following and has a record number of twitter followers who she calls her 'little monsters'
  •  There is usually some correlation between the inside panels

Lady Gaga's Online/Cultural Footprint

The ingenuity of Lady Gaga's marketing perhaps best exemplifies the impact and potential of digitisation, one of the core case studies in Elberse's 'Blockbusters'(2013). This instance success has been fuelled by Lady Gaga's fans who she calls her 'Little Monsters'. and her strong bond with them continues to fuel this in her ongoing success and brand values.

This can also be signified by her statistical success as follows:

Instagram - Filming!

We thought it would be good to have a shot that didn't just include pictures of Gaga but had a them amongst them. Therefore we thought it fitted to put the Lady Gaga wig on something other than ' Lady Gaga' Our fans loved it and we received roughly 18 likes.

Instagram - Lady Gaga in Elberses' Blockbusters

Elberses' Blockbuster book is highly useful for both our AS work but also now our A2 as we decided to focus on Lady Gaga. Elberse talks about Lady Gagas rise to fame through the work of social media. Which wouldnt not have been available 10 years ago. We thought it would be great to take a photo of this and share it with our own 'little monster' fan base.

Instagram - Audience Research

We asked our amazing Gaga fans for some help with our audience research, who is better to ask than the fans themselves? With the use of digitisation and the use of social media we now have access to her fans all around the world from America, Europe, South America, Australia and the UK. We also asked for the fans age range so we could get an idea as to who we should be aiming our music video at. However, many were more than happy to tell us their age which helped pin point exactly where our target audience needs to lie.

Instagram Post - Filming Update

So we went out filming and thought it fitting that we take a couple of photos for our Instagram followers so they can keep up to date as to what is happening. However because of how we have marketed ourselves on Instagram ( As A level students who are making a music video to Bad Romance, Who love Lady Gaga) therefore we have aquired a lot of fans who are just willing to see Lady Gaga and are not actually interested in our filming therefore this post only earnt 25 likes, which is still a lot I suppose.

We posted this as a little 'behind the scenes' look at our production. As stated above, this only gathered 25 likes, and so clearly shows that the best way to attract attention from our followers is to share a picture of Gaga. We hope to share more behind the scenes however.

Instagram - Lady Gaga is Our Inspiration

For this post we thought it would be good to utilise it to achieve more followers, we did this by using the most popular hashtags and by using hashtags familiar to gaga fans! we thought this would be a great way to be able to boost our numbers and fast! We received 45 likes on this post plus Lady Gaga fans asking for follows!!

We uploaded this picture, and tagged some of our followers who commented frequently in it. This seemed to boost the amount of people liking the photo (though this could arguably be because of it being a picture of Gaga!)

This is our most successful post to date!
